What is your USP?

In the world of business, the acronym USP stands for Unique Selling Proposition.

A Unique Selling Proposition is what makes you different from your industry competition.

Your business’ USP is what sets you apart from the other Real Estate Agents, the other Children’s Chiropractors, the other wedding photographers/videographers!

You can think of your USP as an elevator pitch. You have less than a minute to explain what makes who you are & what you do different than somebody else doing the same exact thing.

What makes your business stand out when compared to other businesses in the industry?

Even better, what about your business do you want to be the thing that stands out?

Your USP is highlighting what your ideal customer/client cares about the most & how your product or service fulfills that better than the other companies out there in the market place.

Having a USP is valuable because your ideal customers/clients don’t actually want to buy your product or service. What they really want is for you to solve a problem of theirs. They want your product or service to improve an area of their life. They want your product or service because of the feeling they get as a result of having it.

I liked what Shopify wrote about the company PipCorn (which was actually a pitch on SharkTank!)  I’ll feature their words below.

What makes you stand out from your competition?

What’s different about who you are & what you do?

And most importantly, how are you highlighting that in your marketing?
